The dilated scalewort, Frullania dilatata, is a liverwort, a small non-flowering plant related to mosses. It belongs to the family Frullaniaceae within the order Porellales and the class Jungermanniopsida.
As a member of the phylum Marchantiophyta, it shares the simple, low-growing body plan of other liverworts. Its family placement sets it apart from the many other liverworts that look similar at a glance.
Distribution and Habitat
The dilated scalewort is most often seen in spring. Its sightings climb from winter into spring, peak in April, and then decline through the summer and autumn.
