Catillaria nigroclavata is a lichen, a partnership between a fungus and an alga or cyanobacterium. It belongs to the family Catillariaceae in the order Lecanorales, within the class Lecanoromycetes and the phylum Ascomycota.
The species is mainly found in Europe and North America. It has also been reported from other continents, so its range extends beyond the two regions where it is most common.
Distribution and Habitat
Catillaria nigroclavata is mainly found in Europe and North America. It has also been reported from other continents outside these two regions.
Observations of the species are spread across the year, with the most presence observations falling in May. Observation counts show where and when people have found it, not how common it is, so the seasonal pattern should not be read as a measure of abundance.
